Just discovered this amazing hack that really helped me reduce the anxiety level and put my mind towards some positive thinking.
Anxiety is basically caused by a thing you are thinking about, that has happened in the past or you are going to face that in the future. Sometimes, things like having an interview or an exam causes anxiety. So it’s not that only negative circumstances causes fear and anxiety.
Now here is a tried and tested solution. Just rate the problem you have been thinking about, on a scale between 1-10 on the level of anxiety it is causing. This tool might not be very effective for a high intensity anxiety issue.
Just stand up and consider a situation where you are watching the problem in front of you on a big screen placed very close to you. This can be anything like an upcoming assignment, project, meeting or a medical procedure you need to undergo in the near future.
Now, imagine that this problem is moving away from you slowly. Just do it for 30-60 seconds. This will reduce the intensity of the negative feeling. Check your level of intensity after a minute and I am sure you will feel much better.
After this, look at that imaginary screen and the problem on it again. Now imagine that the size of the screen and the problem on it is reducing. This will help reduce the anxiety as well.
Just make sure, you don’t reduce the size of the problem and screen to that of a needle tip 🙂 Some issues might cause anxiety, but need some attention. For e.g a Job interview might give you butterflies in your stomach, but you can’t just move that out of your sight. Just keep it at an imaginary distance that doesn’t cause unnecessary fear and anxiety.
Try this simple tool and share how you felt after this.
