Quick Excercises to Fight Anxiety and Fear

Anxiety is a series of thoughts and emotions that we feel overtime. Different people have different experiences of anxiety, but generally that involves some type of negative thoughts about the future or the past.

For e.g a business owner who had faced a downfall in business will keep on thinking about that difficult phase and that affects his business in the future even when he is doing fine and has come out of that difficult phase. In a different scenario, a business owner might fear losses or downfall in the business in the coming future. This just gives them anxiety.

You must have heard similar stories from very successful sportspersons, movie actors and celebrities. They get thoughts of losing the fame and success one day and that gives them anxiety.

Thoughts are made up of 5 elements that depends on our 5 senses. What we are feeling in a certain moment comes from these senses. For e.g what you hear, what you smell, what you taste, what you feel and what you see.  All these leads to positive or negative feelings.

When you are feeling low and anxious due to negative thoughts in your mind, it is very important to take control of your mind, your thoughts and your emotions. This will help you interrupt this pattern of negative thoughts.

More you keep the negative thoughts in your mind, more this anxiety pattern will become stronger in your neuro system.

As we know mind affects the body, similarly body movement affects our state of mind as well. You can follow these quick calm excercises to move out of this depressing anxiety pattern:

  1. Just do some physical movement. Shake your body parts. ( make sure you don’t do this while driving 🙂 ). Stand up and move for some time. This will give a quick relief from anxiety and fear.
  2. Take deep breath: This is considered to be the best solution as it can be done anytime anywhere if you feel and anxiety bout. Just make sure that you breath in and out for atleast 5 minutes while keeping your eyes closes.
  3. Sit or stand in a posture so that your body is full relaxed. When you are anxious your muscles get tight and your body comes in  close posture. Just ease your body so that your mind gets a signal that you are relaxed and everything is alright 🙂
  4. Relax your stress triangle. Your head, shoulder and neck makes a stress triangle. When you are stressed, you will feel stiffness in these body parts. So just make sure to sit or stand in a posture that relaxes your shoulder, head and neck. You can do some physical movement to move your head, and shoulder in a circualr movement, helping break the anxiety pattern.
  5. Last but not the least, just relax your jaw, bring a smile to your face and look forward in a relaxing body posture. This will put you in a positive state of mind.

Some of these activities such as deep breathing exercise and relaxing the triangle of stress can be done 3-4 times a day even when you are not feeling anxious. These will just boost some positive thoughts in your mind.

Most important is to START.
