Social media sites algorithm works in a way that—the more you scroll he feed, the more it will send compelling content to keep your engaged. It’s becoming difficult for the social media users to break habits of checking TikTok or Instagram reels and constantly refreshing to see more.
I have seen alot of kids and teenagers getting easy access to these sites and becoming addicted to short form video content. Continious scrolling for hours put strain on their eyes and affect mental health. They get irritated easily and start voiding conversations with their friends and even elders.
“If a child has started to spend alot of his/her time on social media at the expense of real-life interactions, parents should be concerned”
Research has shown that teens and young adults with excessive social media usage are three times as likely to suffer from depression.
Are these social media companies and policymakers doing anything to prevent, minimize the risks associated with social media usage?
